Should I Consolidate My Federal Student Loans?

Loan consolidation may not always be your best option in managing the repayment of your student loans. UHEAA offers an Extended Repayment Plan that offers many advantages in comparison to loan consolidation. The reasons to consider the Extended Repayment Program include:

  1. Borrower Benefits that are not available on consolidation loans,
  2. Reduced monthly payments,
  3. Extended repayment period,
  4. Less paperwork and faster processing time than a loan consolidation application process, and
  5. Local service.
Please call a UHEAA Customer Service Representative at 877.336.7378 for more details. If you choose loan consolidation, please understand that UHEAA's mission is to serve the students and residents of the State of Utah. To consolidate with UHEAA you must have at least $7,500 in eligible student loans and meet one of the following criteria:
  • Have at least one loan guaranteed or serviced by UHEAA, or
  • Be attending or have attended in the past a college or university located in Utah, or
  • Be a Utah resident.
If you meet one of these criteria, you are eligible for a UHEAA Consolidation Loan. Please call a UHEAA Customer Service Representative at 877.336.7378 for more details about whether a consolidation loan is right for you.
